Virginia Atlantic WFC Breaks Into National Top 15 Following Opening Weekend Victory

NORFOLK, Va. — Virginia Atlantic FC has officially entered the national spotlight.

Following a dramatic 2-1 season-opening victory over Charlottesville Blues FC, Virginia Atlantic FC debuted at No. 15 in the latest USL W League national power rankings.

Virginia Atlantic opened the 2026 campaign with an impressive road performance, controlling much of the match through strong possession and midfield play led by Bernadette Stefan, Mara Grutkamp, Li-Lou Debaeker, and Chiara Premoli.

Jayda Sutton opened the scoring early in the first half before Charlottesville found a late equalizer in the closing minutes. In dramatic fashion, defender Mackenzie Mackreth stepped into goal during stoppage time and delivered a massive penalty save to keep the match level before Sutton scored the game-winning goal moments later to secure the 2-1 victory.

The result earned Virginia Atlantic national recognition heading into Week Two of the season and continues to build momentum around the club’s strong start to the year.

Virginia Atlantic FC now turns its attention to tonight’s Chesapeake Division matchup against Virginia Beach United FC, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 PM.
